TEHRAN (Mehr News Agency)— Kamal Kharrazi, Iran's foreign minister, discussed the issues of Iran's cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the European Union (EU) with his Italian counterpart, Franco Frattini on Wednesday on phone.

Kharrazi described the IAEA's recent report on Iran's nuclear activities as balanced, stressing that the report should be inspected by the IAEA Board of Governors.

The Iranian foreign minister said that Iran has made a close and transparent cooperation with the IAEA, adding that Iran has never intended to produce nuclear weapons.

"There is no evidence of Iran's intent to produce nuclear weapons and this issue is mentioned in the report," he said.

Pointing to an agreement by Iran to sign the additional protocol to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Kharrazi said Iran has agreed to suspend the process of uranium enrichment and has answered all the IAEA questions.

"Thus no ambiguous issue remains and it’s Europe's turn to take positive and practical steps for further cooperation with Iran," he said.

In a letter to Mohamed ElBaradei, the IAEA director general, Iran agreed on Monday to suspend uranium enrichment and sign the additional protocol to the NPT.

Frattini lauded Iran for its decision to sign the protocol. Frattini said Iran's positive decision in this connection demonstrated the country's commitments to the agreed issues and was a sign of Iran's respect to the demands of the international community.

Now, Europe has been encouraged to attract the confidence of other countries toward Iran's transparent nuclear activities, the Italian foreign minister said.

"Our objective is to lead the Iran-EU relations into a right and progressive path," he said. HL/MS End MNA
